Shaukat Basra injured, secretary killed as PPP s rally attacked in Haroonabad

BAHAWALNAGAR – Pakistan Peoples Party leader and General Secretary (South Punjab) Shaukat Basra was wounded and his personal assistant was killed as a result of firing here at Haroonabad city on Monday.

According to media reports, the incident took place between supporters of the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z) in Bahawalnagar’s Haroonabad area which led to several people being injured including Basra.

Basra’s personal assistant Imtiaz was killed in the firing. The injured were all shifted to a local hospital in Bahawalnagar.

In a video message, Basra has alleged that MPA Ghulam Murtaza and Ejaz-ul-Haq of Vital Group are behind the firing incident. However, no man or group has taken responsibility for the gunfight.

PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari condemned the attack and called for arrest of the culprits. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called the attack an act of cowardice. PPP leader Afzal Chan blamed “PML-N goons” for the attack.
