MUMBAI (Web Desk) – In highly controversial remarks, the Shiv Sena Monday said the increasing population of Muslims in the country will cause language and geographical imbalance. It also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that Muslims accept the necessity of family planning.
The Sena said that increasing the Hindu population to counter Muslims is not the solution and that the “Sangh” should pressurise the government to strictly impose family planning on all religions, the NDTV reported.
“Not only in Assam and small north-eastern states but the Muslim population is also increasing in big states like Haryana and Delhi. Shiv Sena believes, by increasing population, Muslims wants to capture the Hindu Rashtra….,” the Sena said in an edit in mouthpiece Saamana.
“From 2001-2011, Muslim population increased by around 24 percent and must have increased by another 5-10 percent till 2015. The increasing population will cause language, geographical and sentimental imbalance and will create cracks in the unity of the country,” said the editorial.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clearly tell Muslims to obey the law of the land and accept the necessity of family planning. The PM promised to address their issues even if they knock his doors midnight. But, will Muslims similarly run to help the country?” it questioned.
“More than Lokpal, the country needs a Common Civil Code in place,” it said.
“Whoever wants to try Ghar Wapsi can do so. We do not oppose it. But this is not the solution to stop Islamic onslaught on the country. Pakistan has an Islamic government. Even countries like Iraq have an Islamic government. But in those countries, human lives there do not have much dignity.
On the contrary, countries like Turkmenistan that have adopted modern technology are in the race with Europe and America. Modi government should knock the doors of Muslims and apprise them with this fact,” the Sena said.
Since its independence from British in 1947, India has been illegally occupying Muslim-majority territories, and has deprived the Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir their basic rights, especially of freedom.
Even as the Hindu nationalists have subjected the Muslims in India to extreme torture, the census data on the population of religious groups (2001-2011) states India’s Muslim population has grown by 24 per cent between 2001 and 2011 against national average of 18 percent with the community’s representation rising to 14.2 pc from 13.4 pc of total population.
Jammu and Kashmir has the highest Muslim population (68.3 per cent), followed by Assam (34.2 per cent) and West Bengal (27 per cent). The growth rate of Muslim population in the country was around 29 per cent between 1991 and 2001.
At 24 per cent, the growth rate of Muslim population is higher than the national average of 18 per cent for the decade (2001-11).
