The development coincided with the decisions made by the National Security Committee which directed to suspend bilateral trade with its nuclear-armed neighbour, besides downgrading the ties.

The top civil-military elite also decided to take the matter to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC); the Pakistani military had earlier said it “firmly stands” with Kashmiris.
