Omar Ayub removed as PTI Secretary General; Salman Akram Raja to take over role

ISLAMABAD – Omar Ayub Khan’s resignation from his position as secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has been accepted amid reshuffle and restructuring of the party’s leadership.

Ayub, who also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, told media that he asked Shibli Faraz to submit his resignation to incarcerated Imran Khan during meeting.

Omar expressed gratitude to PTI founder for accepting his resignation. He clarified that although he had previously submitted a resignation on June 22, it was not approved, but his most recent resignation from September 5 has now been accepted.

Senior PTI leader explained that it was difficult for him to balance his duties as opposition leader, attending court hearings, managing responsibilities as secretary general, and handling constitutional matters had become overwhelming.

Despite stepping down from the position, Omar affirmed his commitment to continue working alongside the PTI founder as a dedicated party member.

As beleaguered faced hard times since May last year, PTI founder – who himself reminded behind bars for over a year – direction to restructure the party’s administration by appointing Salman Akram Raja as the new secretary general.

Khan also separated parliamentary affairs from practical politics, with Omar Ayub and Senator Shibli Faraz leading the parliamentary team and Raoof Hassan spearheading the think tank.
