DELHI (Web Desk/ Agencies) – With royal properties worth thousands of crores belonging to the last Nawab of Bhopal under threat of being confiscated under the Ene my Property Act, 1968, Bollywood actor and Nawab Saif Ali Khan has moved the Madhya Pradesh HC.
On Monday, he sought stay on vesting of properties under the Enemy Act and listing of the properties by the state. Saif’s grandmother Sajida Sultan inherited the Bhopal State’s properties in 1961, making the Pataudi family the inheritor of royal properties. The dispute lies around the Bhopal Nawab’s eldest daughter, Abida Sultaan, who was heir apparent, but migrated to Pakistan in 1950.
Speaking to TOI, Saif’s ad vocate said, “Sajida Sultan was recognised as sole successor by President of India through a gazette notification. Enemy property excludes citizens of India. We have pleaded that vesting order be quashed and directive of listing of properties be put on hold.” Office of Custodian of Enemy Property for India (CEPI) issued vesting order on February 24.
CEPI claims since Abida Sultaan was supposed to be the successor, all her assets would be treated as enemy property.
