LAHORE (Staff Report) – The WWF-Pakistan is aimed at instilling conservation awareness among the country’s youth.
On Monday, a certificate distribution ceremony was held for students who successfully completed the International Eco-Internship Programme (IEIP) workshop at WWF-Pakistan headoffice.
Eighty students from the leading schools in Lahore took part in the five-day workshop in the month of June. Students who performed well in the documentary-making session also received letters of appreciation.
WWF-Pakistan representatives including Corporate Partnership and Fundraising Manager Sharjeel Farooq Malik, Eco-Internship Programme Senior Officer Hamza Malik and officer Usman Ijaz were present at the ceremony with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) officials: Health Safety and Environment General Manager Farrukh Majeed and Executive Engineer Asma Maqbool.
Speaking at the occasion, Farrukh Majeed said SNGPL was committed to raise energy conservation awareness among the youth of Pakistan. “Through the IEIP, we aim to spread this message across the country so that sustainability can be promoted.”
Sharjeel Farooq Malik stated: “WWF-Pakistan’s International Eco-Internship Programme aims to still conservation awareness among the youth of our nation. We are proud to offer the largest environmental internship platform in the country which caters to more than 5,000 students in a year.
“As an institution, we strongly believe that each and every one of us should play their role in the conservation and protection of the Earth.”
The International Eco-Internship Programme (IEIP) is a structured workshop based on six sessions that gives students an opportunity to learn more about the pressing environmental challenges of today.
The sessions cover a wide range of topics on nature conservation and the environment such as biodiversity, sustainable development, water conservation, renewable energies, climate change, green journalism, solid waste management and nature photography.
The students are also involved in hands on activities such as documentary making, eco designing, picture story, and survival training.
