LAHORE (Staff Report) – Former President of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum passed away in Islamabad today (Friday) after protracted illness.
He was the supreme leader of Muslim Conference. He was amongst the founding leader of Kashmir freedom movement.
Sardar Abdul Qayyum was also known as “Mujahid-e-Awal” or “the first holy warrior,” and was believed to have fired the first bullet in the 1947 war of liberation to establish AJK.
He had been suffering from several diseases since last few years.
According to media reports, Khan’s funeral prayers will be offered at Rawalpindi’s Racecourse Ground after which his body will be shifted to his native land, Dhirkot where another funeral will be held.
