LAHORE – Life is super fragile as we know it. While money can be received on and off, life cannot be returned once it passes you by, yet we let a piece of paper define our existence.
No one has the power to guarantee the longevity of life but if one has the power to prolong it through medical aid then why should one misuse that blessing by creating wordly barriers?
A post by a witness of the ruthless behavior and ignorance of our Pakistani doctors has sent social media into a frenzy.
General hospital, Karachi, blatantly refused to provide surgery to a wounded rickshaw driver, Ijaz Solangi, because they needed cash in hand first. No one was forcing them to help out the poor man for free, it was an honest commitment that the money would be paid in a short while but at least the surgery could be started beforehand. What is so wrong about the idea?
A social media user Keenjhar, who witnessed the ordeal, recalls that while she begged the receptionist “Haider” to figure out a solution and get the surgery started, her efforts went all in vain as there was refusal from the other end.
When the senior staff wouldn’t agree, then off course the junior staff would have the same inbuilt mentality to say no to the request of delayed payment without even consulting another senior staff member twice. Let us keep in mind that Ijaz was fatally wounded, and not just a victim of slight discomfort, however, the pain did not melt the hearts of the medics.
Social media has now gone furious and for all the right reasons and we agree, emergency cases cannot be dealt with such negligence!
A few of the reactions are underlined to give a glimpse of how severe the negligence was committed by the public service facility.
Damn right again
Sad reality..
Definitely a thin line between the two..
Change is a necessity or more incidents like these would tragically claim lives. Aren’t the lives of the poor worth it?
General Hospital, what possible explanation is there?
