MULTAN – England Test squad etched their name in history, creating record for highest innings total against Pakistan in Test cricket, with staggeting 823 runs during maiden Test.
This remarkable feat marks only the second time in history that any team has surpassed 700 runs against Pakistan, with the West Indies holding the previous record of 790.
English skipper Ollie Pope declared innings after Harry Brook’s extraordinary performance, scoring 317 runs on Day 4 of the game. The visitors batsmen gave toughtime to Pakistani bowlers, and Brook concluded the session unbeaten on 218.
Joe Root contributed a massive 259, forming a record-breaking fourth-wicket partnership of 409 runs.
Shan Masoo led squad struggled to contain the England batsmen, and Aamir Jamal provided the breakthrough by dismissing Ben Duckett, who scored a quick-fire 84 off 71 balls. Root and Brook then added an unbeaten 110 runs together for the fourth wicket.
In first innings, the hosts posted total of 556 runs but lost their last two wickets quickly on Day 3. Abrar Ahmed fell to Joe Root, while Jack Leach bowled out Shaheen Afridi. Salman Ali Agha ended his innings not out at 104 runs, while Pakistan captain Shan Masood top-scored with 151 runs from 177 balls. Abdullah Shafique also made a significant contribution with 102 runs off 184 deliveries.
