DUBAI (Staff Report) – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed India’s Shashank Manohar as its first independent chairman.

The 58-year-old was the sole nominee for the position and was elected unopposed. He will has begin his two-year term with the sport’s governing body immediately after the council approved the constitutional amendments proposed by the board in its April meeting, a press release on the ICC website said on Thursday.

Manohar had resigned as the President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.
