LAHORE (Staff Report) – All of Pakistan’s four provincial assemblies and the National Assembly have reached the midterm mark in their tenure, according to a report prepared by education campaign Alif Ailaan.
In its Midterm Report Card for Parliamentarians, Alif Ailaan has tried to gauge every MNA through the performance of their respective constituencies since the 2013 elections against four indicators for education – school facilities, gender parity, student to teacher ratio and retention; and awarded grades in each category, as well as an overall grade to each MNA.
Only three out of 272 MNAs have scored ‘A’ grade.
The highest possible grade is ‘A+’ and the lowest is ‘E’. The grades do not reflect the state of education in a given constituency, but rather the demonstrable change in each constituency since the 2013 election.
This is purely the design of Alif Ailaan which took the data from AEPAM (Academy of Educational Planning & Management) of 154,000 schools from across Pakistan.
According to the report, out of 272 elected MNAs, only three MNAs scored an ‘A’ and can lay claim to constituencies where there is evidence of real overall progress since the 2013 general election.
Alif Ailaan is a campaign that seeks to put education at the front and centre of public discourse in Pakistan. Funded by the UK Department for International Development, the campaign is run by a small team of media and strategic communications specialists with experience from across the world.
