Section 144 imposed in Islamabad after JIT report sparks political rift

ISLAMABAD – After rising calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after JIT’s report and threats of countrywide protest from the opposition parties, the district administration has imposed Section 144 banning public gatherings and display of weapons for two months in the capital city, Islamabad.

During this period, no one can hold rallies and mass gatherings within the premises of the capital city, besides, more than five people cannot gather at one place.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan and PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and other opposition leaders have demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister after the JIT stated in its investigation report that the prime minister and his children had earned wealth more than their known sources of income.

They also said that alternative measures including protests will be taken if the PM did not tender resignation.
