GUJRAT (Web Desk) – Students at the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), burnt an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express their “resentment with the current government” here on Tuesday.
Members of the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Dussehra by burning the effigy of Modi and others to protest against the growing interference of the Centre in universities and attacks on Dalits.
“We celebrated the victory of truth over falsehood in a modern and democratic country by burning effigies. For us Modi and RSS are symbol of untruth,” said Sunny Diman, an NSUI member.
Indian Express reported that the members of the Congress-affiliated NSUI burnt an effigy representing the Prime Minister.
They had also burnt effigies representing Ramdev, Sadhvi Pragya, Nathuram Godse, Asaram Bapu and JNU Vice-Chancellor Jagadesh Kumar.
The JNU administration served notices to four students for burning an effigy of the PM.The matter is under investigation, according to reports.
Responding to the event, the vice-chancellor took to Twitter to disclose the probe into the incident.

Sunny Dhiman, a leader of the NSUI, said, “Earlier, we had burnt an effigy of Modi on the campus premises and nothing happened. Effigy burnings are routine in JNU, no permission is needed for them.”
