NEW YORK (Web Desk) – The UN Security Council on Tuesday approved an arms embargo on the Houthi leaders fighting against Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen.
The security council voted 14-0 accepting the resolution whereas Russia abstained the process.
The resolution is aimed at ending the Houthis military campaign against supporters of Yemen’s embattled president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and the rebels’ attempt to take over the strategic Mideast country.
It demanded that all Yemeni parties, especially the Houthis, end violence and “resume and accelerate” U.N.-brokered negotiations to continue the country’s political transition.
The arms embargo was slapped on Houthi rebels and their key supporters, ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his son.
