India announces 1 billion fresh aid for Afghanistan

NEW DELHI – India announced another $1 billion aid for Afghanistan to assist Kabul in capacity building and institutional reforms as President Ashraf Ghani Thursday completed his two-day official visit to India.

Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Indian Foreign Secretary Jaishankar told newsmen that Afghanistan will also use the fresh aid in ongoing reconstruction projects.

The projects were initiated with $2 billion aid previously pledged by India.

Meanwhile, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to enhance bilateral trade and intensify the joint efforts against terrorists.

In a meeting, the two leaders discussed the overall regional situation, urging complete elimination of terrorists without any discrimination.

Afghanistan and India also decided that the Strategic Partnership Council headed by the foreign ministers of both countries will hold key meetings in the near future.
