Houthis call for immediate, unconditional stop to Saudi strikes

ADEN (Staff Report) – A senior official of Houthi rebels fighting against Saudi-led coalition forces in Yemen on Thursday called for ‘immediate and conditional’ halt to aerial bombing.

The statement by rebel leader has surfaced in a situation when a session of United Nations Security Council has slapped arms embargo on Houthi leaders including former Yemeni President Abdullah Saleh.

Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif had also vowed to utilize all sort of influence in Yemen to push the rebels towards negotiations.

Earlier Saudi Arabia along with other Arab nations had launched ‘Operation Decisive Storm’ to curb Houthi rebellion and restore the deposed government of President Hadi. A session of Arab League endorsed the Saudi action.

Over 500 Houthis have been killed while battling at the border with Saudi Arabia, confirmed the Saudi defence ministry.
