China condemns Quetta church attack

BEIJING – China has strongly condemned the Sunday’s attack by the so-called ‘Islamic State’ terrorists on a church in southern Pakistani province of Balochistan.

“China strongly condemns the terrorist attack on a church in Quetta, Pakistan,” China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that comes a day after nine people were killed in a suicide attack at the Bethel Memorial Methodist Church on Quetta’s Zarghoon Road.

Those who died include three women. More than 40 people were also hurt in the attack. Officials said security forces intercepted and shot one bomber outside but the second attacker managed to reach the church’s main door where he blew himself up.

Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying has expressed condolences to the victims of the attack during her regular press conference.

“China opposes terrorism in all its forms and will continue to firmly support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and safeguard national stability and people’s lives and property,” she said while reiterating Beijing’s its firm support.
