NA condemns Imran, Sheikh Rashid s anti-parliament remarks

ISLAMABAD- The National Assembly, on Thursday, passed a resolution condemning Pakistan Taheek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed for publicly disrespecting the parliament.

All major political parties, including the ruling Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Awami National Part (AMP), condemned the two leaders on the floor of Parliament.

The resolution followed fierce speeches from both, treasury and opposition benches. PML-N leader and Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif and Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah highlighted the achievements made by the parliament and called for a privilege resolution against PTI’s chief. Khursheed Shah said, “The country was a nuclear power because of the parliament, the borders are protected because of parliament.”

Imran Khan and Sheik Rasheed had publicly cursed the parliament, on 17th January at a joint rally of PTI, PPP and PAT, for voting in support of the ‘corrupt’ Sharifs.

Earlier in the day, Imran Khan defended  his harsh criticism of the parliament and said in a  tweet,

“When a Parliament, which must protect nation’s interests, passes a person-specific law allowing a disqualified person guilty of Rs 3 bn money laundering, tax evasion, concealment of assets, forgery & perjury to become head of a pol party, then such a law is a “laanath” on Parlliament.”

“In fact in this specific context “laanath” is a mild word to use. If anyone disagrees, I challenge them to do a public poll on what ppl think of such a Parliament. I can guarantee most will condemn it”, Imran Khan added.

He challenged anyone who disagrees with his stance on Parliament to hold a public poll on what people think of the august house.
