SHARJAH – Excited children were joined by curious parents as they were shown how to spin their own colourful cotton candy during a workshop at the Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival.
Youngsters as young as 6 lined up in an orderly queue before taking turns to spin their own stick from the candy maker.
“The secret is to spin the candy in one direction,” said Mona Abella, who was demonstrating the technique during the Neon Cotton Candy session, which is being run by Sharjah-based Creative Labs.
Youngsters were shown how pre-prepared bowls of sugar and food colour mix were added to the centre of the candy maker.
When the strings of sugar began to come out the children spun the candy onto paper straws.
As the blue and pink candy were being made more families gathered around the machine to learn how to make their own.
The hour-long workshop is being held daily during the 10th edition of the festival, which runs until April 28 at Expo Centre Sharjah and is themed ‘Your Future… Just a Book Away’. The timings of the workshop will vary.
