Ahsan Iqbal terms CPEC a game changer in region

LONDON – Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal said on Sunday that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would be a game changer in the region.

Addressing a seminar on CPEC in ‘The London School of Economics’  he said that Pakistanis residing in foreign countries would have to step up for progress of Pakistan.

‘The biggest ever investment in the country is being made in energy sector, which is US $35 billion out of US$46 billion portfolio of CPEC. Not only is the government focusing on power generation, but its current priority includes setting up new transmission lines and efficient distribution system’ Ahsan said.

‘In the last three years, the economy has seen a steady growth from 2.5% in 2013 to 4.8% last year. In 2013, the inflation was in double digit whereas it is the lowest currently. Karachi Stock Exchange is considered on of the best performing stock exchanges in the region. The International Financial Institutions and credit rating agencies are showing confidence in Pakistan economy’ he added.

The legislator also took aim at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan during the “Future of Pakistan Conference”.

Ahsan Iqbal said that the masses had rejected Imran Khan and fate of Naya Pakistan is in the hands of Awami Muslim Leauge chairman Sheikh Rasheed and Babar Awan. Pakistani high commissioner Syed Ibn Abbas and son of Maryam Nawaz, Junaid Safdar also attended the event.

Junaid Safdar termed the seminar as one of the most insightful and inspiring event .
