KARACHI – The Sindh Rangers informed the Sindh High Court on Friday that they did not arrest Ghulam Qadir Marri, a close aide to former president Asif Ali Zardari, who went missing on April 7.
The disclosure was made before a division bench headed by Justice Mohammed Shafi Siddiqui, during the hearing of a petition moved by Ismail Marri, who sought the recovery of his brother and three members of his personal staff.
In its comments on the petition, the paramilitary force informed the judges that Mr Marri and his associates had neither been arrested by the force, nor were they in their custody.
Ismail, represented by advocate Shahab Sarki, informed the court that his brother had not been produced in any court of law and that his family had not been provided any details regarding any cases against him.
He asked the court to ensure the release of the detainees if they were not wanted in any case.

Following the statement of Rangers and plaintiff, the court directed the authorities concerned to make all-out efforts to recover the missing persons and adjourned the matter to a date to be later fixed by the court’s office.
Former president Asif Zardari’s close aide Qadir Marri’s vehicle was found abandoned near a thermal power station in Jamshoro on April 7.
It bears mentioning that three close aides of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari mysteriously went missing during the first week of April.
The disappeared individuals included former advisor of Singh government and close aide Nawab Laghari who went missing from Islamabad, while a consultant to Omni Group Ashfar Laghari from Karachi.
The aforementioned Ghulam Qadir Mari mysteriously went missing stirring storm among political stalwarts of Sindh. Initially, it was also revealed through unofficial sources that country’s graft buster took Marri into custody.
