ISLAMABAD – Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Accountability, Shehzad Akbar has said that a legal process was underway to bring back the looted money stashed away abroad.
Speaking to a private TV channel, the official expressed that the government had signed agreements with 10 countries to bring what he termed the looted money of the nation.
‘The government has gathered important information about the money and that the details about the Rs700 billion looted public money will be shared with the public,’ said Akbar.
Affirming that the government will continue the due process of accountability, the prime minister’s special assistant said that the government will protect the interests of overseas Pakistanis.
He asserted that the business community will be facilitated for boosting economic activities in the country to create more employment opportunities.

Shehzad Akbar is spearheading the team tasked to trace the money stashed abroad by the Pakistanis. Recently, he had expressed that assets worth $5.3 billion were established in Dubai alone through alleged money laundering.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, the official highlighted that the government had identified more than 5,000 fake accounts which were allegedly used for money laundering.
Recently Pakistan and the United Kingdom had also inked an accord that will help resume the process regarding the recovery of wealth stashed abroad and bilateral exchange of prisoners.
‘The reason for signing the accord is the recovery of looted wealth currently stashed outside the country,’ Shahzad Akbar had said as the British Home Secretary Sajid Javid visited Pakistan in September.
During his visit to Malaysia, Prime Minister Imran Khan had expressed that he would facilitate businessmen to bring in foreign investment.
Khan, while talking to diaspora in Malaysia, expressed that he would not grant NRO to anyone.
‘I will remain a threat to the opposition,’ Khan had said.
