DUBAI (Staff Report) – The International Cricket Council (ICC) Wednesday announced Australian skipper Steve Smith as ICC Cricketer of the year 2015.
Meanwhile South African skipper AB de Villiers and Australia’s Meg Lanning were named the year’s best one-day international players in the men and women’s game respectively.
South Africa’s du Plessis and West Indies’ Stafanie Taylor were declared best T20 cricketers in men and women categories respectively. Josh Hazlewood remained best emerging player of the year.
Spirit of the Cricket Award 2015 was given to New Zealand’s skipper Brendon McCullum and England’s Rickard Cattle was named as ICC Umpire of the year.
Smith hammered 1,734 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 82.57 during the voting period of current year from September 18, 2014 to September 13, 2015 to bag the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
Steve Smith also scored as many as seven centuries and a his career’s top score of 215 against England at Lord’s in August this year. He scored 206 boundaries during this time.
He was followed by Pakistan’s Younis Khan, who was just short of 500 runs after him.
