LAHORE: Tomorrow will mark the 13th death anniversary of Lollywood comic legend, Mohammad Saeed Khan, more popularly known as Rangeela.
He has been dubbed as one of the greatest stars of Lollywood in the 70’s and his work is closely associated with the ‘Golden days” of the film industry. Rangeela acted in nearly 200 Lollywood films and was also a prominent producer, writer, director and actor. He worked passionately in the industry for around four decades.
In an interview with The Express Tribune, senior film actress Shiba Butt said, “Rangeela not only showed his talent in the field of comedy but was one of the best in every other aspect of the film industry. He was an extraordinary man who impressed everyone with his talent. Rangeela not only won awards for comedy but won a number of awards in other fields which included singing, directing, producing and writing.”
According to film director, Altaf Hussain, “There is currently no one like Rangeela in Lollywood. He was a simple man but was enriched with God gifted talent. He truly ruled in the industry for about four decades as he excelled in every category, be it acting, writing or producing.”
The veteran legend made his way into the industry with a small comic role in the 1958 Punjabi film Jatti,but went on to act in some of the industry’s greatest hits such as Rangeela, Dosti, Insaan Aur Gadha, Dia Aur Tufaan, Zidi, Dil Aur Dunya, Kubra Aashiq and Madam Bowery to name a few.

He passed away on May 24, 2005, “The memories I have of Rangeela are still very fresh in my mind, even though it has been such a long time since he passed,” shared veteran actress Durdana Rahman. “I see his face when I listen to Ga Mere Manwa Gata Ja Refrom Diya Aur Toufaan as Rangeela sang it himself. The time that Rangeela was in the industry was definitely the golden era of Lollywood. Those days will not return as there can never be another like him.”
