LAHORE (Staff Report) – The federal government on Tuesday filed its reply in the Sindh High Court (SHC) regarding the ban on political-thriller ‘Maalik’, stating that film director Asher Azeem Gill’s petition against the move should be termed ‘inadmissible’.
The entire country complained against the film, which is why it was banned, it said.
The government’s reply went also criticized the movie for portraying elected representatives in a “negative light” and being critical of the National Action Plan and the judiciary.
Earlier, Maalik, an Urdu feature film released in April 2016 which had already been playing in cinemas, was banned throughout Pakistan under Section 9 of the Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979 by the Ministry of Information.
The government’s nation-wide ban against the film was also challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). Two weeks ago, the LHC gave the government until May 19 to submit a reply against the petition challenging the ban.
