Pakistan crush Australia in first T20

ABU DHABI – Pakistan beat Australia by 66 runs in the first Twenty20 match at Abu Dhabi Cricket Ground in UAE on Wednesday.

Chasing 156 to win, Australia were all out for 89 handing Pakistan a big victory.

Pakistan lead the 3-match series 1-0.

Babar Azam struck 55-ball 68 as Pakistan posted 155/8 in their first Twenty20 match against Australia at Abu Dhabi Cricket Stadium in UAE on Wednesday.

Earlier, Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and sent Pakistan in to bat in the first Twenty20 international in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Australia left out paceman Mitchell Starc and offspinner Nathan Lyon and included legspinner Adam Zampa in their XI.

Pakistan are without senior batsman Shoaib Malik who joined the team late as he was with his wife, Indian tennis star Sania Mirza, for the birth of their first child.

Currently, team Pakistan have topped position in the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 ranking and they will have to win at least one match to retain their first position in ICC global rankings.

Australia, who beat Pakistan in the group match of the tri-series played in Zimbabwe, need to win 3-0 if they want to jump from their current third position to the top.

The Green Shirts in Sarfraz’s captaincy won 23 matches out of 27 T20 games. On the other hand, Pakistan and Australia played 17 T20 matches whereas Pakistan won 9, Australia 7 and one match got tied.

The match is scheduled to start at 9:00 pm. Second and third T20 matches will be played in Dubai on October 26th and 28th respectively.

Earlier, Pakistan won the two-match Test series against Australia by 1-0.

Pakistan will be without senior batsman Shoaib Malik who was with his tennis star wife Sania Mirza in India for the birth of their first child.
