Death toll in Nepal rises to over 1,800

KATHMANDU (APP) – Death toll in the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal has risen to over 1,800 while around 4,700 others were injured.

The Nepalese authorities have appealed for international aid to cope with the aftermath of the devastating quake.
In an interview, the Nepal’s Information Minister Minendra Rijal said their country is in a moment of crisis and they need international assistance in this hour of grief.

He said they have launched massive rescue and rehabilitation operations and lots needs to be done.
Meanwhile, the quake-hit people of Nepal braved freezing temperatures and patchy rain to sleep on pavements, in parks or in fields in the crowded Kathmandu valley overnight.

They were afraid to return to homes struck by the strong quake amid after-shocks.
Hospitals struggled to cope with the dead and injured with emergency supplies running out.

The epicentre of the quake was eight kilometers east of Nepal’s second largest city Pokhara but it also hit Northern India, Bangladesh and Tibet.

44 people have been killed in India, 17 in Tibet, 02 in Bangladesh while Chinese citizens also died at the Nepal-China border.
