Best tablets you can buy in 2017

It’s true that tablets have been dying since 2016, but that doesn’t stop manufacturers from making them. Tablets are the best option when it comes to reading books or just general web browsing or even gaming. Their larger screen sizes combined with longer lasting batteries provide a great experience.

If you’re in the market and looking for a good tablet, here are your options:

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

Arguably, it’s one of the best tablets you can buy right now. The Galaxy Tab S3 supports a 9.7” HDR (High Definition Resolution) enabled super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. In simpler words, it’s a great panel with rich high-definition colours, and it saves battery life on black colour pixels by shutting them off. It also has quad speakers for stereo audio for tablets are mostly marketed as multi-media devices.

The device also comes with an S-Pen for note-taking or casual drawing. Features like a high-resolution screen drain the battery quickly, so Samsung has also implemented fast charging, for a 1.5-hour charge to %100. It is an excellent multi-media powerhouse, but a bit pricey coming in at $600.

Google Pixel C

Google amazed many of us at their 2015 Nexus event, where they unveiled the Google Pixel C, a tablet that’s made for productivity. While it may be a tad bit overpriced, the Pixel C gets a lot of things right, which most tablets struggle to do. It’s packed with a powerful 34.2 Watt-hour battery, the latest 7.1 android nougat powered by the Nvidia Tegra X1 processor, a 10.1” with a resolution of 2560×1800, 64GB storage and the new port, the pixel C paired with 3 gigabytes of RAM.

Being a Google product, it’s safe to say that it won’t be losing software update support for quite a while. The tablet also has a few decent official accessories like the official magnetic keyboard (recommended if you plan on buying the Pixel) or the folio keyboard. If you can spend $630 for the tablet, it may be a good option for you.

Nvidia Shield K1

This list would be incomplete without including the Nvidia shield one. It is the best tablet for gaming, as Nvidia advertises it as ‘The Ultimate Tablet for Gamers’, which holds up to its claim. It has front facing speakers, a 7” display, 2 GB RAM, 16GB storage and a big 5200 mAh battery.

Nvidia has removed the stylus, and the tablet doesn’t come with a wall adapter and a cable anymore. The company is trying to cut costs, making this tablet only $200. This price tag makes it not only the best tablet in the market but also one of the most affordable.

Samsung Note 12.2”

Yes, the Samsung note 12.2”, also known as the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro, is a relatively old tablet. Though released in 2014, it’s anything but redundant now. This tablet is one of the best to be known for its durability and sustainability. It is definitely a large tablet, almost as big as a 13” laptop, with a resolution of 2560×1600, 3GB RAM, an 8MP camera, and a 9500 mAh battery, the biggest on this list.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a note product if it didn’t have extra features like the IR Blaster so you can control your television, the S pen and the ability to open 4 apps or more at once. Samsung took ‘ambitious’ steps with the launch of this tablet, namely, the new user interface, updated hardware controls etc. It’s a business-orientated device, though I don’t see it as being any less useful to a college student. You can buy a used one for around RS. 30,000

Lenovo Yoga book

This is the ultimate college tablet! The Lenovo Yoga book is a 360-hinge gadget with a sleek and durable watchband hinge. It comes in two variations, Windows and Android. I personally would recommend the Android variation because Windows would be just too much for the 7th Gen Intel Atom processor. It has loud and clear speakers alongside a 10.1” screen with a resolution of 1920×1200.

Thankfully, the display gets bright enough to clearly use in sunlight. The Yoga book also comes with a stylus but it doesn’t work on the screen. The stylus is a 2-in-1 pen/stylus, the nib can easily be changed by the nib remover tool installed inside the cap.  The ports are limited for it has a micro-USB, micro-HDMI and a micro SD card slot for expandable storage. Lenovo Yoga has 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The standout feature is its keyboard which doesn’t have any ‘keys’. It’s a backlit touch keyboard on the top of a Lenovo’s ‘create-pad’. The product comes with a notebook, which can be attached magnetically and whatever you write on the notepad will be copied on the Yoga Book. The Android version costs $450 and the windows version costs $500. Watch this video to learn more.
