Teacher slaps Pakistani student in Hong Kong, ruptures ear drum

HONG KONG – A male teacher at a Hong Kong secondary school has faced arrest for splitting the eardrum of a Pakistani student after slapping him, according to local media report.

Police in Sham Shui Po said they received a report from a 26-year-old man that a non-Chinese student had been wounded at a secondary school on Cornwall Street on October 10.

The student, 15, suffered a ruptured ear dum and loss of hearing after being slapped by the teacher, the Hong Kong Standard reported.

The man has been released on bail after being arrested by police.

Sham Shui Po is an area of Sham Shui Po District, Hong Kong, situated in the northwestern part of the Kowloon Peninsula.

Pakistanis in Hong Kong are an ethnic minority in Hong Kong numbering 17,253 persons according to the 2011 census.

There are quite a few of ethnic minorities including Pakistanis aged 15 and over that are attending post secondary education. Besides, a majority of them attended upper secondary or higher education.
