Panama JIT dissolved as members resume routine work

ISLAMABAD – The high-powered Joint Investigation Team tasked to probe offshore assets of ruling Sharif family has been dissolved and the six members have reported back to their routine jobs after submitting the report in the apex court.

The JIT that investigated the Prime Minister and his children in the light of the order by the top court in Panama case, submitted its final report on alleged money-laundering by the ruling family to the apex court on July 10.

The team, put together on May 6 after the Supreme Court’s April 20 judgment in the Panama case, had been given 60 days to complete its probe.

The JIT was headed by Federal Investigation Agency Additional Director Wajid Zia and comprised Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan, SECP Executive Director Communication Bilal Rasool, Irfan Naeem Mangi of the National Accountability Bureau, Brigadier (retd) Nauman Saeed of the Inter-Services Intelligence and Brigadier Kamran Khurshid from the Military Intelligence.

The Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad had served as the secretariat of the JIT while it carried out its work.

The Supreme Court, after having received the detailed report on July 10, conducted five hearings and reserved the judgment in the landmark case on July 21.
