ISLAMABAD – The Foreign Office on Wednesday said that India had violated United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) resolutions by calling the disputed area of Kashmir an essential part of its territory.
While talking to state-owned Television, FO spokesman Nafees Zakaria said Pakistan would always resist this argument at every legal and diplomatic forum.
The spokesman said Pakistan’s main concern was the human rights violation in Kashmir, adding that the country regretted the international community’s silence on the matter.
He stressed that the recent wave of protest in Kashmir must not be considered as a reinvigorated movement of opposition.
Instead, he explained that it was part of the freedom movement that had continued since 1989, in which over 0.1 million (One hundred thousand) Kashmiris had lost their lives at the hands of Indian security forces.
He dismissed the idea that there was an external force behind the Kashmiri resistance movement and termed it an internal drive of Kashmir’s younger generation against the inhumanities of the Indian security forces.
“According to its policy, the government of Pakistan has always been registering its protest through their envoys at every legal and diplomatic forum,” he added.
He called upon the international community and media to support the Kashmir issue and play their respective roles in highlighting the ongoing atrocities in Indian-held Kashmir.
About prospects of foreign-secretary level dialogue between Pakistan and India, Zakaria said the resumption of dialogue had been delayed due to the ongoing situation in Kashmir.
