MUSCAT – Pakistan will face defending champions India in the final of the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy 2018 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Sunday night.
In the semi-finals, two times champions Pakistan beat Malaysia 3-1 in the shootout after being level 4-4 while India defeated Japan 3-2.
The final would be a repeat of last year Trophy title decider where India emerged the winner. India and Pakistan both have won the Trophy twice previously.
The Greenshirts have won four of its five matches, losing one and drawing one. They defeated South Korea 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament while they lost to arch-rivals India 3-1.
This was followed by an 8-1 thrashing of hosts Oman, a 1-1 draw against Japan and a 1-0 win against Malaysia to book a place in the semi-final.
Skipper, Mohammad Rizwan, who limped off the pitch on Thursday with a hamstring injury, is being expected to play today’s match.
The biennial event is being held in Muscat from October 18 to 28 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman and features Pakistan, India, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea and hosts Oman.
The much-awaited final match between Pakistan and India will start at 10:10pm.
