Jared Leto talks VMAs, Blade Runner 2049, and duels in Name THAT Song Challenge with Jimmy Fallon

The Academy Award Winning Actor talked method acting, his life as a musician, and his love for out of the box performance antics.

Jared Leto, the 45 year old Academy Award Winning actor and musician, came on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night to talk about his latest ventures. He also lit up the room with his usual quirkiness and had a friendly banter with the host Jimmy Fallon while playing “Name that SONG Challenge” where they tested their musical knowledge to the best of their abilities.

Jared talked about the recent surprise performance on MTV’s VMA 2017 with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars. The band debuted their latest new single Walk On Water in an enthralling performance on stage. The conceptualization was mind bending – using thermal cameras to refract their bodies’ “heat signature”,  creating vibrant, visually fantastic presentation.

Earlier, commenting on his performance, he said,  “When you do a show like the MTV Awards you have an opportunity to explore and experiment, to revisit the past or to push towards the future. We knew we wanted to do something that hadn’t been done before.”

Jimmy also talked to Jared about his character in Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the original sci-fi blockbuster Blade Runner that was released 35 years ago. Leto is known for his unique method acting skills. Himmerses his conscience into the psyche of the character that he plays. He has featured in some of the most iconic roles in movies like Suicide Squad, Dallas Buyers Club (for which Leto bagged an Academy Award), and Requiem for a Dream; just to name a few.

Jared is playing blind, villainous ‘Niander Wallace’ – the “manipulative replicant manufacturer” who goes head to head with Ryan Gosling’s Officer K for the ultimate battle against humanity.

The duo then played the very fun game “Name that SONG Challenge”. The band played the melodies of popular songs on instruments, while Leto and Fallon raced on guessing the songs. Fallon took the lead with guessing “Don’t You Want Me” by The Human League and “It’s Not Unusual” by Tom Jones. Jared caught up soon, though only for a bit.

While both played wonderfully, Jared dubbed Fallon “musical genius” as he took the lead with guessing the most songs. Talk about being a pro.
