PPP takes PTI-MQM push for new opposition leader in stride

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party expressed its confidence in retaining Khursheed Shah as the opposition leader, ignoring the joint strategy currently being deliberated upon by Muttahida Quami Movement and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for his replacement.

Talking to newsmen after a party meeting convened in this regard on Friday, PPP leader Nayyar Bukhari claimed that they had the required support and so Shah would continue serving.

“If anyone wants to replace the opposition leader they may fulfil their desire,” he said.

PPP Central Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira stated that the party trusted Shah and that no one can get the required support over their wish.

”Our allies are with us,” he affirmed, and added that they had a strategy over the selection of opposition leader that they could not share.

Recently, the diametrically opposite MQM-P and PTI held consultations to oust Shah and appoint a new opposition leader.

The severity of the top slot can be gauged from the fact that the opposition leader is consulted for the appointment of National Accountability Bureau chief and care-taker set up before the 2018 General Elections.

The incumbent NAB head Qamar Zaman Chaudhry is set to retire on October 10 and the new chief would have a decisive role regarding the ongoing corruption references against the embattled Sharif family.
