TOKYO (Web Desk) – An powerful earthquake hit Japan on Saturday shaking building and triggering the car alarms, media reports suggested. The magnitude of the earthquake was recorded 7.8 points at rector scale.
There are no immediate reports of any damage and casualties, according Reuters.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center officials said that despite powerful earthquake no tsunami warning has been issued.
Japan authorities responsible to maintain nuclear reactors said that there were no new abnormalities recorded as a result of earthquake and Fukushima Daiichi and Daini nuclear power plants are functioning properly.
According to US geological survey the epicenter was 676 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. It was centered on a remote spot in the Pacific Ocean around 870 kilometers south of Tokyo.
Both runways at Narita Airport, the main international gateway to Tokyo, were temporarily closed while inspections were carried out.
