JAMMU – A Border Security Force (BSF) soldier allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself from his service rifle inside a camp in Rajouri district of the India-held Jammu and Kashmir, reports in local media said on Sunday.
The soldier identified as Head Constable Ram Charan, posted with the 126th battalion of Border Security Force (BSF), was on duty when he fatally shot himself in the neck at Sunderbani BSF Headquarters in the district, last night.
On hearing the gunshot, his colleagues rushed him to a local hospital where he was declared brought dead. The motive behind his taking such an extreme step was not known immediately.
Police have registered a case in this connection and handed over the body of the deceased to his unit after legal and medical formalities this morning.
This incident of suicide has raised the number of such deaths amongst the Indian troops and police personnel to 411 in occupied Kashmir from January 2007 till date.
