LAHORE – ‘What Will People Say’ has created a lot of talk since its release a few months back on the popular streaming website, Netflix. The movie is originally Norwegian and was even the country’s submission to the Academy Awards.
The film focuses on the life and struggles of a girl who is misjudged by her own father due to her lifestyle.
Her father catches her with a boy and her life is pretty much considered over.
She is sent to Pakistan to learn “values”.
The topic is sensitive in nature due to the number of honour killings that happen yearly due to men of the family thinking that “their women” are getting out of hand.
These are the real struggles of a brown girl sometimes for instance when it is shown that she is asked to jump off a cliff and kill herself by her father.
The film is a must watch for anyone who wants to understand what really goes down in a western-brown household at times.
