Bangladesh high commission in Islamabad halts visas to Pakistani nationals

ISLAMABAD – Bangladesh has halted issuing visas to Pakistani nationals, a diplomatic source told Daily Pakistan on Monday.

According to the official, Bangladeshi diplomat, named Iqbal Hossain applied to Pakistan’s Home Ministry to extend the tenure of his visa. But, the authorities of Pakistan denied it. In the wake of denial of his visa extension, Bangladesh took such a decision immediately.

Hossain submitted his application in January last, he added.

Similarly, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry sent the proposed nomination of its proposed envoy Saqlain Syedah to Bangladesh in March 2018. Bangladesh has yet to respond to the appointment, reported The Daily Star, a local Bangladeshi newspaper.

Last year, Bangladesh hanged Islamist party leaders including Motiur Rahman Nizami, 73, for alleged genocide and other crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence.

In reply, Pakistan’s parliament has issued condemnations and passed resolutions against the hanging of these war criminals on several occasions, Bangladesh considers this an interference in its internal affairs.

Pakistan foreign office didn’t issue any statement on this issue so far.
