Pakistani celebrities join hands for JusticeforFarhista

LAHORE- There really seems to be zero progress, or hope, for Pakistan with regards to safety of women or children.

In the holy month of Ramzan, the horrific news of a 10-year-old being raped and murdered in Islamabad, Pakistan has shocked the country.

The body of a girl, identified as Farishta Mohmand, was found dumped in Chak Shahzad, a suburb in Islamabad. It is believed that she had been missing for five days before being found.

People are also claiming that the police and medical facilities have not been cooperating as they refused to file a first information report (FIR) or conduct a postmortem.

The case caused an uproar on social media after many condemned the murder and slammed the authorities for not taking prompt actions against the missing case.

Among others, celebrities also criticised how the culprits are still out in the open.

Mahira Khan

“Sick to my stomach. Stop sharing graphic images of the poor child. For Gods sake! Twitter is there not a way to disable people from uploading such content online?” she wrote.

“If we claim that we derive our constitution from Quran, then demons like Zainab/Farishta’s rapists/murderers guilty of Fasaad fil Ardh should be killed in a “PAINFUL MANNER” (example Stoned to Death or crucifixion till death). May Allah help us all,” the actor-turned-activist shared.

Jawad Ahmad

“I’m a citizen of the world and my homeland is Pakistan. I dwell in Lahore but I’m from all the provinces of Pakistan. My heart lives in KPK and FATA too,”  the singer tweeted. “I demand Justice For Farishta just as I did for Zainab. Rape is inexcusable. Her pic makes my heart bleed. Arrest and punish the culprits.”

How many more cases does our judicial system need to take serious action against these monsters? When will the realization hit them that the responsibility of the authorities doesn’t end after an ineffective Tweet or just offering condolences to the victim’s family? The culprits must be captured and punished for committing such a heinous crime!

We, as a society, really need to re-evaluate our morals and priorities. Is our morality only for creating trending hashtags or do we really care about human rights, respect and safety of the women and children of this country like one is supposed to?
