Thousands protest outside Indian High Commission in UK against Kashmir move

LONDON – Thousands of people held a demonstration outside the Indian High Commission in London on Thursday to lend support to the people residing in the restive Kashmir region.

The protesters were also waving Pakistani and Kashmiri flags and carried banners saying “Kashmir is Burning”, calling on the Indian premier to avoid war mongering and grant Kashmiris their due right.

The protest was scheduled to take place at 1pm local time, however, hundreds had already gathered outside the building; the participants called out the ruling BJP regime in India for revoking the special status of Kashmir.

Former British MP George Galloway also addressed the audience and fired a broadside at the Indian govt for scrapping Article 370 and 35A of the constitution.

“Modi has taken the world to the brink of war — nuclear war — and as a result risked the safety and security of people all over the world,” he observed.

Meanwhile, United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office Minister Dr. Andrew Murrison has expressed serious concerns over human rights violations and prevailing situation in Indian occupied Kashmir.

During a meeting Thursday, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to UK Mohammad Nafees Zakaria in London briefed the British minister on the gross human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir, the threat to the regional security due to unilateral move by India to change the demography of the IOK, and simultaneously heating up of situation at LoC and Working Boundary.
