KARACHI (Web Desk) – Lawyers across Pakistan are boycotting the court proceedings while protesting against blasphemous cartoons published by French weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Lawyers have boycotted courts on the call of Punjab Bar Council to show displeasure over the sketches. In Lahore, lawyers did not appear in session court, district court and Cantt court. Reportedly, fifteen thousand cases have been postponed due to the strike.
Meanwhile in an emergency meeting in Multan, lawyers passed a resolution condemning the provocative material.
On the call of Baluchistan Bar Association, lawyers have completely boycotted court proceedings across the province. The legal fraternity was of the view that hurting sentiments of more than one billion Muslims represents ‘cheapest mindset’ of so-called French journalists.
Earlier on Friday, at least three people including a photo journalist were injured in clashes between anti-Charlie Hebdo protesters and police outside the French consulate in Karachi.
