Currency Smuggling Case: Ayyan Ali escapes indictment once again

RAWALPINDI (Online) – Fashion model Ayyan Ali could not be indicted on Monday in the currency smuggling case as Customs Court judge Rana Aftab was on leave.

Ayyan Ali appeared before duty judge of banking court Sabir Sultan, but no progress could be made in the case and the hearing was adjourned till October 8.

The hearing into the FIA’s plea seeking registration of new case of money laundering against Ayyan was also put off till October 8.

Talking to media in the court premises, Ayyan said that she remained in jail for four months and was appearing in the court on every hearing. “I will prove my innocence in the court,” she said adding that the case was subjudice, therefore, she could not talk to the media in this connection.

Ayyan Ali was taken into custody at the Islamabad airport in March on charges of currency smuggling. But no challan could be presented against her despite a lapse of six and half months. She has appeared before court 24 times but she could not be indicted for the crime during the last six hearings.
