Ali Bilal, also known as Zille Shah, was a diehard supporter of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf. He was young, exuberant, and innocent and loyalist who aspired and devoted his deep love to Imran Khan as Pakistani the most cherished Leader. He was a resident of Jahangir Town, Islampura Lahore who had been a devotee and ardent lover of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Who Killed Shah?
On 8th March 2023, the Punjab Home Department imposed Section 144 – banning public rallies ahead of the PTI’s election campaign and Aurat March. After the violation of Section 144 in Zaman Park, Police took many of the party workers including Zille Shah into custody. He was allegedly pitilessly beaten and murdered by the Lahore Police which launched a crackdown on those participating in the party’s rally following the imposition of Section 144.
After the tragic death of Ali Bilal, PTI leader Farrukh Habib said that a party worker, Ali Bilal, “was lying in Services Hospital” and demanded an explanation from Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi in a press conference. He also claimed that the interim government wanted to“shed blood” and it seemed that it has accomplished its mission.
The post-mortem examination, which was conducted by a three-member forensic team from General Hospital, revealed evidence of assault on his body, with the cause of death determined to be due to torture. Additionally, the post-mortem report revealed that 26 different marks of torture were found on the victim’s body, including on sensitive parts, while a part of his skull was badly affected. Moreover, the post-mortem report also revealed that blood accumulated in Ali Bilal’s liver and pancreas also contributed to his death.
The PTI’s Leaders and workers claimed that Ali Bilal was picked up by police from Zaman Park, along with other PTI activists, during the party’s abortive attempt to launch an election campaign, and was last videoed alive as he was being driven away in a police van. On the contrary, the police asserted that after Ali Bilal’s release from Police custody, he became the unfortunate victim of a road accident. He was supposedly hit by a black Vigo whose driver and passenger brought his body to the hospital. When they realized that he was dead, they escaped. After they drove away, they were traced via the ‘safe city’ CCTV network. The police also released the arrested men’s statements to support their version.
Amid this blame game, PML-N’s Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her deep condolence over Zille Shah’s death. She said that a motivated political worker to me is very special and important.
Most significantly, the police‘s statements prove that Ali Bilal was hit by a speeding car while walking in the middle of the road, after which he was shifted to Services Hospital in injured condition, but succumbed to his injuries. Therefore, Imran Khan and PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid and Fawad Chaudhry, among others, have been named in the FIR.
Refuting PTI’s claims of its worker’s death due to police torture, interim Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi had said on Saturday, 11th March 2023, that Bilal died in a car accident. He had added that PTI Punjab wing leader Raja Shakeel — the owner of the vehicle in which Bilal’s body was brought to the Services Hospital — informed Yasmin Rashid that a man has been hit by a vehicle. “We received information that the man didn’t die due to torture after which the police immediately began working on the matter,” he had said during a press conference in Lahore detailing the circumstances under which the PTI worker died following a standoff between the party workers and police.
Illustrating the case more vividly, Mohsin Naqvi further said that PTI Sen

Illustrating the case more vividly, Mohsin Naqvi further said that PTI Senior leader Yasmin Rashid then went to Zaman Park and told Shakeel not to worry and communicated the entire incident to other party leaders after which she sent Shakeel back from Zaman Park.
Meanwhile, IG Punjab also added that the police immediately began backtracking the vehicle after receiving the information. The IG had added that Ali’s blood was found in the vehicle following its recovery through forensics. He said that the deceased PTI worker’s father Liaquat Ali has appealed for an investigation into his son’s death. “The Punjab Police has shared the investigation with Ali’s father. We promise to present all the evidence to Zille Shah’s father.”
Apart from legal procedures and mud sledging, the United Nations has demanded a probe into the alleged killing of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) worker in Lahore in police torture.
Zille Shah was a “special Child” who used to imitate Showbiz stars Sultan Rahi and Shaan’s dialogues and performances attracting several people. He used to claim to sacrifice his life for the sake of his leader’s life, especially after an attack on Imran khan in a public rally. He remained anxious about the threats to Imran Khan’s life and stayed outside his house to protect him. Dismally, Ali Bilal’s parents, shared these aspects of his life and are eagerly waiting for the justice from affluent circles of Pakistan. Disappointedly, our heinous and ruthless Political and Judicious system has swallowed another simple and innocent life. Irrespective to any biased and tilted viewpoints, it is imperative that the govt. should try to trace out the real culprits and they must be taken to the tasks as per the law’s dictates.
