DAMASCUS (News Desk) – Key Syrian rebel commander Zahran Alloush has been killed along with five others in a Friday night air strike near city of Damascus, said media reports.
Alloush was chief of a predominant opposition faction Jaish al-Islam (Army of Islam) which is striving to oust President Bashar al-Asad.
According to a statement of Syrian Defence Ministry the 44-year-old rebel leader was killed when jets carried out two rounds of strikes at a secret meeting as part of national mission. The raid caused several other casualties as well.
Media reports suggested that jets used Russian missiles to target the rebel group in east of Damascus in latest raid.
