World Cup 2023: India trounce Pakistan by seven wickets

AHMEDABAD – An impressive performance in all three departments, especially bowling, guided India to bag a seven-wicket win over Pakistan in a match of the World Cup 2023 at Ahmedabad stadium on Saturday.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made fiery 86 while Shreyas Iyer smashed fifty to secure the win for the team blue.t

Earlier, stunning bowling spell helped India restrict Pakistan from building a tough total as the Team Green was restricted to 191 runs in marquee match.

Opening pair Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq started in a positive fashion as remained alert in overs delivered by disciplined Jasprit Bumrah. However, they took their chances against any loose delivery from Mohammed Siraj.

However, Pakistan lost its first wicket in eighth over when Siraj got one to jag in and trapped Abdullah Shafique leg before. Imamul Haq was dismissed by Hardik Pandya for 36.

Later, Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam tried to grow a partnership to give boost to the total. However, the pair was broken away when Siraj removed Babar Azam. Later, Pakistan lost quick wickets of Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, eliminating the hopes of a big total against hosts.

Bumrah, Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Jadeja and Hardik Pandya took two wickets each..

Ahmedabad will be the epicentre of the world cricket, with 132,000 people – a decent chunk being celebrities, industrialists, politicians, friends of politicians and of course cricket administrators – congregating at what they say is the world’s biggest cricket stadium to witness the match.
