India, France ink MoU about 36 Rafale jets deal

NEW DELHI (News Desk) – New Delhi and Paris Monday signed around a dozen Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) related to cooperation in the fields of solar energy, waste management, defence and commerce, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Francois Hollande held a meeting in New Delhi.

The MoUs also included an agreement under which France will provide as many as 36 Rafale fighter jets to India. However the exact time frame of fulfillment of the the agreement is not yet public.

French President Francois Hollande is in India to become chief guest at the central ceremony related to India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26.

Talking to newsmen Hollande’s arrival, Narendra Modi said that he was feeling great after receiving French President in New Delhi. Hollande is a good friend of India, he said.

Last year, India hosted United States President Barack Obama as chief guest at Republic Day ceremony.
