Anura Kumara Elected New Sri Lankan President

Anura Kumara, a proponent of the Marxist ideology advocating the end of capitalism, has been elected as the new President of Sri Lanka.

Anura Kumara defeated his rival, opposition leader Sajith Premadasa, in the elections.

Following his victory, Anura Kumara stated that their dreams of development and stability will be realised with a fresh start, and the unity of Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, and all Sri Lankan citizens will be the foundation of this new beginning.

It is worth noting that Sri Lanka’s first presidential elections since the severe economic crisis of 2022 were held yesterday.

As no candidate secured 50% of the vote, the president was elected through the counting of preferential votes. Sri Lanka’s current president, Ranil Wickremesinghe, was eliminated from the race in the first round of voting.
