Defending champion Pennetta ousts Sharapova

INDIAN WELLS, US (APP) – World number two Maria Sharapova crashed out of the Indian Wells WTA and ATP tournament Tuesday, losing 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to defending champion Flavia Pennetta.

Pennetta advanced to the quarter-finals, where she will meet either Caroline Garcia of France or Sabine Lisicki of Germany.
