Pakistan, Qatar to boost mutual cooperation

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani arrived in Islamabad today (Monday) on a two-day visit and held talks with Pakistani leadership on several matter of mutual interest.

The Qatari Emir was warmly welcomed by Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif at Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

Ambassador of Qatar to Pakistan, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Commerce Minister Khurram Dastgir and Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi were also present on the occasion.

Besides this Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee General Rashid Mahmood, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah and Air Chief Marshal Sohail Amman also accompanied PM Nawaz to welcome the Emir of Qatar.

The Qatari Emir was presented guard of honour and 21-gun salute on his arrival.

Immediately after his arrival in Islamabad, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamin Bin Hamad Al-Thani called on President Mamnoon Hussain at Aiwan-e-Sadr. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interests. Both the leaders had discussions on prospects of cooperation in trade, energy and investment sectors.

The president and Emir of Qatar agreed on the need to increase cooperation in different sectors.
Mamnoon Hussain referred to the current level of trade between the two countries and said there was great potential to jack it up further.

The Emir said that his country wanted a stable and secure Pakistan and would extend all possible cooperation for the purpose.

According to Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam, The Emir of Qatar is accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Cabinet Ministers, Chairman of Qatar Airways and senior government officials. The two sides will discuss ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields including energy, investment, trade, defence and manpower. Regional and global issues of bilateral importance will also be discussed.

Agreements will be signed during the visit, which will further deepen mutually beneficial cooperation existing between the two countries in various fields.

Moreover, the official visit of the Emir of Qatar will provide fresh impetus to bilateral relations.

Currently, talks have begun between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani in Islamabad. The two leaders are exchanging views on ways and means to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in different fields especially energy, education, trade, investment and manpower.
