ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s weekly inflation increased by 0.28 percent during the first week of August in the 2026-27 fiscal year, reversing the decline recorded in the previous week, according to the latest weekly report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The report showed that inflation on an annual basis stood at 9.29%. During the week under review, prices of 20 essential commodities increased, while nine items became cheaper and 22 remained unchanged.
Items that recorded price increases
Among the major increases, chicken prices rose by 9.19%, followed by onions (10.14%), gram pulse (2.43%), red chilli powder (1.01%), mustard oil (0.99%), tea (0.57%), washing soap (0.08%), wheat flour (0.52%), vegetable ghee (0.37%) and firewood (0.32%).

Meanwhile, the prices of several commodities declined during the week. Tomatoes became cheaper by 6.82%, LPG by 1.90%, high-speed diesel by 1.66%, petrol by 0.63%, sugar by 0.51%, plain bread by 0.29%, eggs and potatoes by 0.09% each, and bananas by 1.20%.
According to the PBS, inflation based on the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) increased across all income groups on a weekly basis. The lowest-income households, earning up to Rs17,732 per month, recorded an annual inflation rate of 9.51%, while households earning above Rs44,176 per month faced annual inflation of 9.0%.
The report indicates that inflationary pressures persisted across income groups despite price declines in selected food and fuel items.
